SINFONIA Viva's New Year's Eve Classical Gala will be staged on the last night of 2009 at Nottingham's Royal Concert Hall, starting at 7.30pm.
The theme of this concert, once again to be conducted by Nicholas Kok – 'Mr New Year's Eve' himself – is to be London Calling.
The pieces to be performed celebrate both the magic of the capital city and the splendour of the surrounding English countryside.
William Walton's stirring march Crown Imperial – written for the 1937 Coronation – opens the proceedings and there will also be a chance to enjoy Viva's performances of Eric Coates's Knightsbridge March and Vaughan Williams's highly evocative The Lark Ascending, among others.
And, although it has little to do with London, New Year's Eve wouldn't be New Year's Eve – as far as Viva fans are concerned – without a generous helping of pieces from Vienna's Strauss family.
Tickets for the concert are £7.50-£29 and are available by calling the box office at the Royal Centre on 0115 9895555.
