Young actors and singers are invited to join a Derbyshire based theatre company for their 14th summer season.

PB Theatricals Youth Theatre, which is based in Bakewell and Chapel-en-le-Frith, is looking for performers aged 10 to 35 years.

The company is renowned for its quality performances of Gilbert and Sullivan operas with only one week’s rehearsal time.

This year their youth production (for ages 10-18) will be Patience, a tale of comically lovesick maidens, sparring aesthetic poets, and an incredulous group of local soldiers.

Meanwhile their young adult group (aged 16-35) will be taking on The Yeomen of the Guard, the darkest of the G&S operas - which deals with a series of love triangles, a travelling jester, and a prisoner escaping from the Tower of London.

Company co-chair Jamie Benson said “I’m really excited about our 2023 season. PB Theatricals has been a massive part of my life since I was 13. Now, at 27, I’m incredibly proud to be co-chair of the organisation that I grew up with. I would not be the person I am

today without PBT, and I love working to extend the opportunities I had as a young performer out to others”.

Georgina Morewood, whose children have been involved with PB Theatricals for the past six years, said “My son started with PBT back in 2017 with his sister following a couple of years’ later. The welcoming, inclusive atmosphere of PBT gives it a real family feel. Everyone gets along, works hard throughout the week and the resulting shows are just phenomenal. The sheer enthusiasm of all involved is quite simply infectious and that is reflected in their performances.”

Auditions for both Patience and The Yeomen of the Guard will be held on August 5, 2023.

Rehearsals for The Yeomen of the Guard will be held at The Playhouse, Chapel-en-le Frith from August 5 to 11. The opera will be performed to the public at The Playhouse on August 11 and at Bakewell’s Medway Centre on August 12, both at 7.30pm.

Rehearsals for Patience will be held at Bakewell’s Medway Centre from August 13 to 19. Public performances will be staged on August 19 at the Medway Centre and on August 20 at The Playhouse, Chapel-en-le-Frith. Both performances will start at 7.30pm.

There is no need to audition to participate in the chorus, and everyone who takes part will be supported and encouraged by a professional musical team.
