Carnival time for hosiery workers on the float in Ilkeston
THis picture, taken at Ilkeston Carnival in the late 1940s or early 1950s, was sent in by a former Ilkestonian who now lives in Southampton.
Violet Disney can be seen sitting on the left side of the front of the float with fellow workers from Rutland Garments in Market Street.
She said: "I left in 1952 so this photograph must have been taken in 1949 or 1950. We always entered Ilkeston Carnival and on this occasion we went as the old woman in the shoe. One year we came first, but not this year."
Violet, whose maiden name was Emmerson, said that also in the picture to her right are Brenda Roberts and Brenda Gregory – who she is eager to get back in touch with.
