ALL the fun of the farm was on offer at a college’s village base this weekend.

Children – and grown-ups – got their hands dirty at Derby College’s Broomfield Hall on Saturday having a go at everything from feeding animals to driving a tractor.

There were rare breeds to pet as well as rabbits, goats and an array of more exotic creatures.

Visitors were also allowed to bottle-feed the lambs during the hands-on event.

Bigger kids got the chance to get behind the wheel of a tractor to get a taste of the agricultural way of life.

There were also games and quizzes at the Food Hub, which is a café and foodshop supplying locally produced goods.

Assistant principal at the Morley-based college, Jeremy Carter, explained that the event is part of a nationwide bid to teach youngsters all about the rural economy in the UK.

He said: “It was fabulous.

“And what was really good was that we had little kids of two- or three-years-old right up to grandmas and grandads having a go.”

n Look out for more events at Broomfield Hall in the Advertiser in coming weeks.
