Hats off to winners

I was lucky enough to attend the Derbyshire County Council Young Achievers Award ceremony at Highfield School, Matlock on Friday December 7.

This ceremony is all about recognising outstanding achievements of young people from across Derbyshire.

Young people very often get bad press but there are so many young people that truly are exceptional, whether facing illness with incredible courage, caring for others, helping in the community or reaching excellence in their chosen fields, such as music and dance, this is an event when some of them can be recognised.

I was really delighted that 27 young people from Erewash received recognition, and as I represent West Hallam at Derbyshire County Council, I was really thrilled to see that of the 27, 10 live in West Hallam, so many, many congratulations to you all. You all deserve great credit and should be very proud of your nominations.

Cllr Carol Hart

Derbyshire county councillor for West Hallam
