Ironworks paintings from Stanton days

FORMER Stanton worker Alan Harlow sent in this photograph of him outside the training centre and exhibition building at the ironworks in 1978.

It appeared in the Steel News, a newspaper distributed to steelworkers across the country, alongside a story about the paintings and drawings Alan used to do for fellow workers.

He said: "Somebody knew I could paint so they fixed up this photo for the workers' newspaper."

When Alan wasn't painting he was assistant foreman in the foundries that can be seen in the background of the picture where they made iron castings for pipes used in the Mersey and Channel tunnels.

If anyone has any other old Stanton photographs or any comments on Alan's pictures, write to us at 8 Heanor Road, Ilkeston, DE7 8ER or email news@ilkestonadvertiser.co.uk.
