Greenbelt is protected: MP

A GOVERNMENT Minister has confirmed that greenbelt has special protection, giving extra fuel to the fight to stop 450 homes being built between Trowell and Stapleford.

Broxtowe MP Anna Soubry, who has spoken out against the plans by W. Westerman to build on Field Farm, received a letter from Greg Clark MP, the Minister with responsibility for planning.

He wrote: “Only in exceptional circumstances should greenbelt boundaries be amended through the development plan process, and only after robust public consultation and independent examination of the draft proposal.”

Ms Soubry has said she has sent a copy of the letter to every Broxtowe borough councillor advising them to ‘think again’.
