Looking back at a Bath Street scene

This week, we feature another photograph from Eddie King's collection of Ilkeston photographs of bygone times.

The picture was taken in the early 20th century, looking down Bath Street with Chapel Street on the right.

The tram lines in the picture ran from Hallam Fields to the end of Cotmanhay, and a tram can be seen coming up the street.

On the opposite side of Bath Street is Fletchers Wine and Spirit Merchants.

Eddie said: "William Fletcher also operated as a chemist, druggist, ale merchant, mineral water manufacturer and bottler.

"He also took over the Erewash Valley Brewery, who traded from nearby North Street. I have quite a collection of Mr Fletcher's bottles in my

large collection of old bottles of Ilkeston."
