Use HS2 money for local station

Sir,

With Reference to Helen Clark’s letter regarding Ilkeston Train Station (Advertiser January 12).

Talk about a case of the pot calling the kettle. The truth is the Labour party also talk a good game at election time but fail to deliver the promises made. Both Labour and the Tories will never make funding available for small towns like Ilkeston.

They will both waste billions on plans such as the HS2 and to destroy our countryside to provide facilities for a few and provide nothing for the majority.

At UKIP we do not support the waste of billions on the HS2 project. We would rather see money spent on improving the local Midland line to cut journey times and invest in small towns like Ilkeston to have a train station, saving tax payers money and improving our public rail system while looking after the environment.

Moonshot. So the DFT are going to issue a press release. Great! Good old Justine Greening. The truth is the Department for Transport has had over 45 years to provide Ilkeston with a Train Station under both labour and Tory Govt. The Truth is they have failed and failed again. Funding will never be provided by them as they continue to waste 30 Billion on projects like the HS2. That is why HS2 has everything to do with it. Do you think the public are thick? Please before you leave silly comments at least understand the area we are talking about. (Ilkeston is in Derbyshire on the Notts border in case you did not know. Afterall you were not aware that the train station shut down 45 years ago!) We all know funding will not be available as all funding is diverted to these wasted projects like HS2. Press release is one thing. Actions is another. 45+ Years of failed policies by the torylab Govt's. Giles Farrand Vice Chairman UKIP Mid Derbyshire.

Just to put Giles straight.......the DFT issued a press release on Tuesday, the gist of which is below..... Local communities and businesses could be given control of decisions and budgets for major local transport schemes in their areas, under proposals announced for consultation by Transport Secretary Justine Greening today. The new system could potentially see decisions on capital funding for local schemes – including new local roads, public transport schemes, better pedestrian routes, and new local rail stations – devolved to democratically accountable local transport bodies. As we can see, the above has ABSLOUTELY nothing to do with HS2. If Ilkeston wants a rail station, the answer is simple.......do the sums and prove you need it, then build it !! Prior to this article, I was under the impression that Ilkeston was on the rail map anyway.........so somewhat suprised you havent got one.
