The final picture in a series taken during the construction of Chalons Way two decades ago gives a glimpse of how the town looked before the bypass was built.

Dave Gunn’s photograph was taken in Lower Bath Street while the building work was taking place down the road.

Before the Stanton Wagon roundabout was built, Bath Street continued into Heanor Road.

None of the shops are recognisable in this picture taken in the mid-1990s – and there is even a sign pointing people to the American Adventure theme park which closed in 2007.
