THE LUCKY teenage boy among all the girls in this photograph unsurprisingly described his time at the Ilkeston factory as the best job he ever had.
Graham Seagrave, now 76, was 16 when this picture was taken at the former Meridian factory in Station Road at Christmas 1951.
It was Graham’s first job, where he was training to be a departmental manager.
He said: “It was the best job I had in my life but the pay was terrible.
“My mates were all going down the pit which was a lot better paid.”
He said there were a lot of items of clothing made at the factory, which stood where Armstrong’s Mill is now, including half hose men’s socks.
