Factory workers are lined up on the platform at Trowell station ready for a trip to the Festival of Britain in London in this 1951 photograph submitted by Ilkeston and District Local History Society.

It was donated to the society by Harry Stanley and shows a party of workers, most of whom probably worked at Charnos hosiery factory.

Members of the society are working on Railway Tales – a book about the social history of Ilkeston and the railways to be released in the Autumn.

Anyone with memories to share should call in at the society’s open meeting on the last Saturday of every month from 10am to 2pm at U Choose Smoothie Bar in South Street, Ilkeston.
