The panto has been written by the legendary Kenneth Alan Taylor, who has taken on the key role of Nurse NellyNoggins.
The evil Sheriff of Nottingham is played by another Playhouse favourite John Elkington. The sheriff has hatched a cunning plan to ‘dispose’ of his niece and nephew so that he can inherit their fortune.
But determined to thwart his plans is the Sheriff’s old time adversary, Nottingham’s favourite outlaw, Robin Hood, who rides back into town to save the day and win the heart of the beautiful Maid Marian in the process.
Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood is the 29th panto that Kenneth Alan Taylor has written and directed for the Playhouse, making him one of the most prolific living pantomime playwrights in England. He is also considered to be one of the finest dames in the land.
Last year, Kenneth was awarded an Honorary Degree by the University of Nottingham. On returning to the stage, Kenneth said: “I know I said I would hang up the dress after appearing as Widow Twankey in 2008’s Aladdin, but whilst writing this wonderful new version of Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood, I confess the urge to don some frocks, high heels, make-up and a pair of heart-shaped specs came right back to me.”
