See Bard’s battle of the sexes

DERBY Theatre is the venue for a production of William Shakespeare’s The Taming Of The Shrew, from February 3-25.

Adapted and directed by Pete Meakin, the play is set in 1850, when the young Queen Victoria sets on the throne of England.

Another spirited young woman, Katherina, remains unmarried. Her wild and wilful ways are far from acceptable in Victorian society.

Enter Petruchio, middle-aged, handsome, but bankrupt. Seeing a way to restore his fortune, he quickly shares Katherina as his wife. But what follows is not wedded bliss, but the systematic and brutal crushing of her spirit.

Tickets cost £8-£24 and are available by calling the box office on 01332 255800.
