An Ilkeston hosiery factory became a hub for youngsters who wanted to do their bit for the war effort.
This picture, sent in by former Chief Petty Officer Bryan Webster was taken in 1941 or 1942 at Booth’s in Awsworth Road.
During the war the ever-growing Sea Cadets branch in Ilkeston were left with nowhere to meet, so factory owner Alf Booth, centre, said they could congregate at the factory canteen. Bryan is in the picture along with Jim Pheasant, famous boxer Jimmy Featherstone and George Beckworth.
Former employee Karl Aldred said: “The management at Booth’s gave and gave to their employees –and to the community.” Call Karl on 0115 930 5802.
