A plan to build 21 homes in Sandiacre has been given the go-ahead despite objections from neighbours.
But before Westerman Homes can begin building the two-storey houses on the site of Magna Seating Systems in Regent Street, the plan – which was submitted two years ago – must be signed off by Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Eric Pickles.
This is because the Environment Agency still has an objection about drainage on the site which has delayed the development.
But neighbour Nicola Hay told Erewash Borough Council’s planning committee that her concerns were with traffic.
“As a mother of three children who walks to school on a daily basis, this would increase dramatically cars parking on double yellow lines,” she said.
“We need to think about the safety of our children.”
Cllr Frank Phillips welcomed the plan, saying: “It’s a derelict site, it’s an eyesore.”
Councillors voted in favour of asking the Secretary of State to lift the Environment Agency’s holding objection.
