AN ILKESTON man has picked up over £30,000 from Derby’s Westfield shopping centre for the kids charity he helps run.
Chris Edwards is chairman of Derby Kids’ Camp,a volunteer-run local charity, which helps to provide free holidays in the Derbyshire Dales for hundreds of Derby’s most deserving young children aged 8-11 each year.
Chris has worked with the charity for 11 years, and helps to raise valuable funds and organise the camp activities in the summer holidays.
He said: “The support and generosity of the Westfield Derby staff and customers has been simply overwhelming over these past two years in supporting Derby Kids’ Camp.
“We cannot thank enough the staff and customers who worked so hard and gave so generously to support us.”
The £30,521 total came from Westfield staff and shoppers during Derby Kids’ Camp’s time as the centre’s chosen charity through fundraisers such as campfire sing-a-longs, sponsored leg waxing and five-a-side football tournaments.
Centre Manager, Janine Bone, said: “Derby Kids Camp do a tremendous job and have been fantastic to work with over the last two years.
“We’re really proud of the money we’ve raised and I would like to offer a huge thank you to all staff and customers involved.”
