A new bargain store for an Ilkeston retail park is good news for job seekers in the town and shoppers’ wallets, owners say.
Later this month a Family Bargains store, owned by the 99p Stores chain, is set to open in the former Focus DIY store on the Waterside Retail Park off Station Road.
The owners say that the £350,000 store will create about 30 jobs and stock everyday items such as food, drink, household and electrical goods at knock-down prices – including 99p Christmas trees.
To boot, the firm is offering one Ilkeston family the chance to win £200 of shopping at the store.
To be in with a chance of winning the shopping voucher, e-mail two sentences about ‘Why we love Christmas’ to firstname.lastname@example.org before 12midnight on Sunday November 18.
The winners will also be the first in the store when it opens at 10am on Tuesday November 20.
Owner of the 99p Stores, chain Hussein Lalani said: “All our prices are jaw-dropping – that’s our promise.”
The Focus DIY store closed in summer 2011, after the company suffered huge financial losses and went into administration.
DIY giants B&Q and Wickes, as well as B&M Bargains, purchased 55 stores, saving some jobs.
But the Ilkeston store was one of the remaining 123 which closed, resulting in 3,000 job losses across the country.
