An Ilkeston group say they can help people through the credit crunch in the run up to Christmas.
Manager at Erewash Credit Union, Seamus Grant, said the phone has not stopped ringing over the last few months.

He said: "People always get ripped off at Christmas. We can't provide money for everyone. We sit down with people and say 'this is what you can do and explain how we can help them.

"Most people use us to save for a rainy day. We lend money cheaply, mainly to people with overdrafts with low cost interest."

The union have done over 400 small loans to people who normally get turned away.
