Furious neighbours are still in the dark three months after complaining that huge conifer trees keeping their back gardens in shadows, need to be cut down.
The 40ft trees, which are on land belonging to the Lee Colourplan factory in Crompton Road, have grown so large residents in adjacent Hallam Fields Road are at the end of their tether.

"We are just fed up. We feel as if we are being overpowered by the trees, they are that big," said Eunice Easom.

"Because they've been left to just grow and grow, they are dead underneath and we're getting our washing covered in brown spores."

When the neighbours talked to the Advertiser about the problems in April, managing director at Lee Colourplan John Gerrard said he would cut the trees down, "then they can see a nice, ugly factory as their view instead."

Eunice added: "All we want is for the managers to come round so we can discuss what needs to be done about it.

"We don't want sarcastic comments like that."

Another neighbour MIck Beasley said: "Absolutely nothing has been done. The trees have grown at least another four foot since.

"Two years ago you could see Stanton-by-Dale from my upstairs bedroom - now I can't even see the hills.

"It's the middle of summer and we get no daylight into our back gardens. We have had to cut the trees back ourselves because they were scratching people's cars.

"Everyone on the street is pulling their hair out."

He said that residents approached Erewash Borough Council more than a year ago when the problem started but were told it would cost more than £350 for the authority to investigate.

Mr Gerrard from the factory did not want to comment when the Advertiser contacted him this week.
