Enterprising students at South East Derbyshire College have raised more than £500 to fund future work in an environmental project with a difference.
The six students, who all have learning difficulties, have refurbished unwanted furniture and made items from scratch using recycled wood at the college's workshops on Field Road, Ilkeston.

Their hard work went on display and sale at the college where staff, students and their families snapped up the items ranging from wardrobes and dining furniture to rocking horses and bird tables.

Tutor Mark Smith said: "Furniture enterprise is a key part of the course with the learners rotating each year so that they can all have a chance to learn these skills.

"They have worked very hard all year and just about everything was sold – much of it as we were carrying the items down the corridor from the workshop!

"The money has been ploughed back into the programme and possibly a residential trip later in the year."
