EREWASH customers will soon be able to see at a glance a food business or caterer's hygiene rating with a Scores on the Doors scheme.
Erewash Borough Council's environmental health, food health and safety team is responsible for inspecting all food businesses for hygiene and safety compliance.

Their findings will be used to give the premises a star rating that will go live on a
host website on April 2 for customers to see.

Other county authorities already publish food hygiene rating scheme on the www.scoresonthedoors.co.uk website.

Around 230 businesses - ranging from restaurants and cafes through to caterers - will be listed on the site initially and will be regularly updated with star ratings for new food business as well as updates to existing ones.

The Scores on the Doors launch has been funded through the council's Pride in Erewash campaign.

Sue Blakeley, Erewash Borough Council's director of Development and Regulatory Services said: "We are delighted to be launching this star rating scheme. It will benefit customers, businesses and the local economy by driving up standards of food safety for consumers. It gives the public the opportunity to make informed choices about where they choose to eat or buy food, based on food safety.

"We have some top quality catering and food outlets in Erewash. This scheme will help food businesses in the borough aim for the highest five star rating."

The Food Health and Safety Team is putting the final touches to next month's launch. A copy of the full star rating scheme protocol is available at www.erewash.gov.uk/StarRatingScheme.
