Ilkeston has been earmarked for a GP practice to be open 12 hours a day, seven days a week.
Derbyshire County Primary Care Trust (PCT) has already announced that the first of its kind will open in Derby town centre at the end of the year. But they have just confirmed that two more will open in the county - one in Chesterfield and one in Erewash, with the preferred choice being Ilkeston.

The centre will be open from 8am to 8pm every day and will be staffed by a team of GPs and nurses - meaning anyone from any area of Derbyshire could walk in and ask to see a doctor. Patients are currently only able to see a GP if they register with a practice and make an appointment.

A survey asking patients across Derbyshire what they think of the accessibility of GP and dental services in the county is to be distributed in June.

The survey, which will be issued by the PCT in June, forms part of their plans to extend the opening hours of at least 50 per cent of its existing GP practices by December 2008 in line with government targets.
It will be sent to over 5,000 patients over the age of 18.
