Shipley Country Park visitors centre is now being powered by the wind after the installation of a wind turbine.
Derbyshire County Council's cabinet member for environmental service, Cllr Brian Lucas, who launched the turbine said: "I'm delighted that we have built this wind turbine, which is on the site of a former colliery tip.

"In stark contrast to the polluting energy generated on the site in the past the wind turbine will generate clean renewable energy."

The turbine is a 15 kw domestic sized wind turbine. It should generate enough electricity for the park's visitor centre and pay for itself over five years.

An exhibition at the park will shortly open about the benefits of renewable energy and what visitors can do to reduce their own energy bills. Local school groups are welcome to go along and look at the turbine.
