A NEWTHORPE couple have this week celebrated 60 years of marriage – and they agreed that tolerance is the key.

Retired Rolls-Royce worker Alan Lacey, 84, and former teacher at Eastwood School, Beryl, were married on March 22, 1951 near their former home in Littleover, Derby.

They moved to Main Street, in Newthorpe, in 1963.

Beryl, 83, said: “Tolerance is the key. I get frustrated with him and he gets frustrated with me. But when we got married it was for life.”

The couple celebrated the big day on Tuesday with a surprise visit from the Mayor and a buffet at Newthorpe Baptist Church for family and friends.
