Lady Luck has smiled on cricket-loving youngsters in their quest for competition glory.

Students at Matlock’s All Saints Junior School have achieved their dream of playing in the county final of Kwik Cricket in Denby today (Thursday, July 2) by a quirk of fate.

Having narrowly missed out on the opportunity of qualifying at the semi-final stage, runners-up All Saints thought their hopes were dashed. Then qualifiers Curbar announced that they couldn’t play in the final of the Rural Derbyshire School Sport Partnership contest as they were on a residential trip.

Parent Carla Eyre, who was supporting students from All Saints at the semi-final, said: “Events like these are really good fun. Not all children have the opportunity to play in competitions like this. “

All Saints teaching assistant, Rachel Sergeant added: “It is fantastic to see the children working together and enjoying team work.”
