A TEENAGE community champion has described his latest charity event as his most successful yet.

James Taylor, 13, managed to raise £465 for Ilkeston charity the Ben Parker Trust – better known as Ben’s Den – at his table-top sale and coffee morning event at West Hallam Village Hall earlier this month.

The youngster, who was awarded one of the Advertiser’s New Year Honours in February, said: “It went brilliantly.

“I’d say it was the busiest one we have ever done.

“The word is definitely getting around now.”

James, who studies at Kirk Hallam Community College, started table-top sales at his house in 2008 to raise money for Ilkeston Stroke Club after the death of his grandmother.

The last two events have been in aid of Ben’s Den, which sends terminally ill children and their families on caravan holidays to Mablethorpe.

As ever, James was helped out by family and schoolfriends on the day.
