AFTER the success of two books about the changing face of Ilkeston, the town’s historical society is planning a third, more ambitious project – and they need YOUR help.
Ilkeston and District Local History Society has put out an appeal to the ‘Tiser’s loyal readers for photographs that have not been published or which may have never been seen by anyone apart from the owner.
Member Stephen Flinders said: “They may be in an album, or lying in a drawer, or even in a shoebox.
“The only criteria is that the photographs are of good enough quality, that they are the property of the owner and feature places in and around town, such as Cotmanhay, Hallam Fields or Little Hallam.”
He said that they have already received a few photographs, including one of Pimlico in the early 1960s, one of Albion Place in the 1930s and a street parade in Burr Lane in the 1920s.
The book, which has the working title of ‘Round and About Town’, is planned to be published in November, but Stephen said he needs your pictures as soon as possible.
“Everyone whose photos are used will, of course, be given full credit in the new book and a complimentary copy as a thank you for their contribution,” he added.
“We are waiting with baited breath to see what the people of Ilson can come up with.”
The society’s last two books, ‘Bottom to Top of Town’, published in 2007, and 2009’s ‘Top of Town’, were sell-outs – and the members hope this book will be no different.
