A chip shop owner thinks yellow lines are killing the town and his business and is trying to get them removed.

George Andreou, from the Manor Fish Bar on South Street recently contacted County Councillor Michelle Booth for Ilkeston West to ask her if the double yellow lines outside his premises could be removed to provide a few on road parking spaces.

Councillor Michelle Booth has met with George a few times to take a closer look at the situation.

She said: “I am not after parking bays as such, there is not room for the pavement to be compromised just here but I am supportive of George’s suggestion that part of the double yellow line markings could be taken away and replaced with a few parking spaces.

“These small alterations would allow some limited waiting spaces for vehicles for perhaps ten or fifteen minutes to help boost access for the many businesses at this spot. I shall be speaking directly to the Cabinet Member for Highways, Councillor Dean Collins at Matlock regarding this idea to be looked at in more detail. George is there every day and his local, daily knowledge of the area should be taken into account.”
