Ilkeston’s Dave Brailsford has been knighted for leading British cyclists to victory this summer.

The 48-year-old coach joined a host of Olympic athletes in the New Year’s Honours revealed at the weekend.

It has been an incredible year for Sir Dave, who last week was handed the Freedom of the Borough of Erewash and earlier in the month the Sports Personality of the Year Coach award.

Dave oversaw Team GB’s eight gold medals at the London Olympics and was the brains behind the first ever British winner of the Tour de France, Bradley Wiggins, who joins him on the New Year’s Honours list.
