Asbestos blaze at Long Eaton factory

Fifty firefighters tackled a huge fire involving asbestos at a disused factory in Long Eaton in the early hours of this morning.

A fire service spokesman said that, owing to asbestos cement in the roof, two people were treated at the scene for decontamination.

At 1.40am, eight fire crews from across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire were called out to Bennett Street in the town.

It took nearly three hours to bring the blaze under control, during which two aerial ladders were used.

No one was hurt during the blaze.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and a full fire and police investigation is due to start this morning.
