Authority agrees to improve canals


Plans to develop Derbyshire’s waterways, including part of the Erewash Canal, have been approved.

Derbyshire County Council’s cabinet agreed to adopt the strategy which looks at developing canals it owns following public consultation.

The council owns and maintains 11 miles of canals including Derby and Sandiacre Canal from the Lock Lane junction of the Erewash Canal to Longmoor Road in Sandiacre.

Councillor Joan Dixon, said: “We are proud that Derbyshire is home to many beautiful canals and want to promote and improve them where we can with the help of communities.”
