A NEWLY-OPENED fish and chip shop has scooped a prestigious industry award for quality and hygiene.
TV chef Jay Rayner presented staff from the West Hallam Fryer with the coveted Fish and Chip Quality Award at a ceremony this month.
The National Federation of Fish Friers runs the scheme as a way of raising standards within the fish and chip trade, rewarding shops, which provide good quality products and high standards of hygiene, and a good quality finished product.
President of the federation Bill Crook said: “It will signal to the consumer that they can buy with confidence where the award is displayed.”
Jay Kumar, of Long Eaton, opened the chippy last year in the Dales Shopping Centre.
