After securing £60,000 form the Heritage Lottery Fund, Ilkeston’s Victoria Park bandstand has been closed as Erewash Borough Council prepare for further funding for restoration.
The council will hear in June if it has successfully won a further bid of £620,000 to develop the project.
The bandstand has undergone a structural survey and it will remain closed until major restoration begins.
It is hoped that funding will cover the reinstating of entrance gates back to their original Victorian design in addition to the restoration of the bowl pavilion.
Erewash Borough Council’s lead member for culture and leisure, Councillor Mike Wallis said: “We have to close the bandstand until work, which could see it taken
off site for complete restoration, is completed.”
The council has confirmed that summer events will still go ahead.
