Bid to demolish pub to make way for shop

A Stapleford pub could be demolished to make way for a frozen food supermarket.

A planning application has been submitted for the Pavilion pub in Derby Road by Iceland, which recently opened a large store on the Waterside Retail Park in Ilkeston.

The Stapleford store – if given permission – would create an estimated 14 new jobs for the town.

Richard Macrae from Stapleford Community Group welcomed the plan.

“I think this could be a very good thing for Stapleford,” he said.

“Iceland is a big brand and sometimes when you get one big brand others tend to follow.”
