Chesterfield magistrates’ court on Wednesday, May 17, how Iain Fish, 40, had been staying in Tideswell during his partner Amanda Clark’s birthday when he attacked her.

Prosecuting solicitor Sarah Haslam said: “They were out together staying at Tideswell, at The Old Vicarage, and they had been drinking at The Star Inn and they had an argument about who was driving and he said he had been drinking and she said she was not insured.”

Ms Haslam added that the complainant kept the car keys and they went to the Co-op store, on Commercial Road, and Fish said, ‘You think you’re the big I am’, to his partner and she walked away but he grabbed her hair at the back of her head.

The complainant suffered pain and she bit her tongue, according to Ms Haslam, and she landed on her left knee and elbow and the defendant was arrested.

Jobless Fish, of Mead Avenue, Leyland, Lancashire, told police he and his partner had been staying in Tideswell and had been drinking and he had grabbed her by her hair.

He pleaded guilty to assault by beating after the incident on April 30.

Defence solicitor James Riley said: “Mr Fish let himself down with his behaviour and they were staying at Tideswell and were completing a pottery course and were going to a concert.”

Mr Riley added that the couple had been drinking on the Sunday afternoon and there had been frustrations because the weekend was not going as planned and they had an argument about how to get to Castleton.

Magistrates told Fish that people visiting a picturesque tourist village did not expect to see this kind of behaviour.

Fish was fined £120 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
