EREWASH surprised experts researching which areas are most ready for the Big Society by coming by out-performing expectations.
A survey found that the borough has ‘higher volunteering rates than expected given the circumstances of the people living in the area’ meaning it is better prepared than predicted.
Richard Holt, who worked on the project, said: “Areas like Erewash deserve our close attention.
“We need to understand why participation is higher in those places than our statistical models can explain.
“Any lessons we might learn from them could be very valuable in helping other locations.
“In the same way, the unpersuaded areas would also be useful to study, to help us understand what really needs to be done if people are to embrace the Big Society concept.”
