THE POLICEMAN in charge of investigating a fire in Long Eaton in which the body of the homeowner was found has given evidence to coroners this morning (Monday).
The body of Linda Parkes, 59, was found by police in the living room at her Wellington Street home three days after the fire on Friday January 14.
Det Con Matthew Goodwin told the Derby Coroners Court that the fire had started in the kitchen and spread to the upstairs bathroom causing the floor to collapse.
Ms Parkes was found on Monday January 17 at 10.30am by police and was identified by close friend Ricky Brelsford the next day.
Det Con Goodwin from Long Eaton station said that officers had tracked down Ms Parkes’s partner Geoffrey Rumas who was out of the country in Spain during their investigation.
The fire service spent 14 hours searching through rubbish and clutter which filled the house on the Friday before handing the investigation over to the police.
