Lewis Scott, 12, is pictured helping the Mayor of Erewash, Councillor Kewal Singh Athwal, cut the ribbon to launch the new jungle climber at Rutland Recreation Ground Play Park.

Joining them were Rebecca Thorley, left, of Ilkeston Parents for Play, and Jon Beeson, second left, of Severn Trent Water, along with parents, children and borough councillors Mike Wallis and Mary Hopkinson.

The new equipment was installed thanks to the members of Ilkeston Parents for Play who secured funding from Severn Trent Water for the Climber, with Erewash Borough Council covering the installation costs.

The group has been formed by parents who joined together to look at improving play facilities in their area.

Councillor Mike Wallis said: “Their enthusiasm and commitment to take the initiative and look at positive ways to work with the council and other organisations is inspiring.”
