AN ILKESTON bus route is set to receive £600,000 of improvements.

Five new buses will be added to trentbarton’s 15 route, which connects Ilkeston, Awsworth, Stapleford, Long Eaton and Old Sawley

Erewash MP Jessica Lee was at the launch event in Ilkeston Market Place on Saturday when the service was officially renamed ‘my 15’.

Managing director Jeff Counsell said: “The new buses offer customers comfortable leather seats in a pleasant, colour co-ordinated environment with dedicated spaces for people using a wheelchair or pushing a buggy.”

The bright orange buses feature pictures of customers on the back, which Mr Counsell said shows that the buses ‘provide a valuable service to the local community’.

He added: “What’s more, the new vehicles benefit from efficient engines and the latest technology to help cut carbon emissions and reduce damage to the environment.”

Staff answered customers’ questions and handed out free gifts at the event.
