Bus service will return to villages

Evening and Sunday bus services will be reinstated in West Hallam and Stanley.

Service 11, which runs from Derby through Stanley to West Hallam, had an evening and Sunday service until December.

But it was axed, leaving Stanley and West Hallam without a bus service during the evenings or on Sundays.

Now Derbyshire County Council, along with Derby City Council, has decided to fund a 90-minute evening service and a two-hourly Sunday service.

Councillor Andy Botham, the council’s deputy cabinet member for jobs, economy and transport, said: “Public transport is a lifeline for many people living in rural communities and I’m pleased that we have been able to keep these services for another year.

“I hope that they are well used because we can only find the funding to pay for these services for a year because of the difficult financial position the council is in.”

The evening service 11 will be operated by Yourbus, with the Sunday 11 service operated by Notts & Derby.

The new times take effect from Sunday (June 29).
