AN ILKESTON teenager struggling to find employment has been helped into work by a community based project.

Groundwork Derby and Derbyshire launched a new initiative in 2011 to get young people back into work, whilst tidying up neglected areas of the community.

One of those helped by the project was 18 year-old Michael Oram from Ilkeston.

He left the team at Groundwork after just five weeks on the project after he secured his very first place of employment thanks to the support he has received.

He said: “I had been out of work for around two months and had struggled to get my first proper job, I just wasn’t getting anywhere with the jobs that I had applied for.

“After a lot of knockbacks, the Job Centre sent me to Groundwork for some help and training and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to secure work.

“After just five weeks I secured a job at a cleaning company.”
