Town delivery office saved from axe

ILKESTON’S Royal Mail delivery office has been saved from the axe following eight months of consultation.

Staff had been working with the threat of closure hanging over them since Royal Mail bosses announced they were considering shutting the site.

The original plan would have seen both Ilkeston and Heanor offices transfer to Derby.

But following talks with workers and unions, bosses have decided to keep our local office open.

However the Derby site will now shut, with services there transferring to Nottingham’s mail centre in 2014.
