Air cadet Laura Allen leapt to the aid of a man who had collapsed in the street, using her first aid training.

Laura Allen, 17, was on her way home from Long Eaton Air Cadets earlier this month when she saw a man lying on in the road near her home in Tamworth Road.

Without thinking, she quickly assessed his condition, checked for vital signs and made him comfortable during the 40min wait for an ambulance.

“The training I have received during my time with the air cadets has given me the confidence to take control of a situation and administer first aid as necessary” said Laura, who has just left The Long Eaton School.

A passing doctor was able to determine that the man probably had internal bleeding before the ambulance took him to hospital.

Laura is no stranger to using her first aid skills, having previously helped a woman suffering an asthma attack and another collapsed man.
