ILKESTON author Dr Ann Featherstone, who signed copies of her latest books here at the weekend, has called for more book shops in town.

The Manchester University lecturer and member of Ilkeston Local History Society chatted with readers, signing copies of Victorian-themed novels A Newgate Jig and Walking in Pimlico at the U Choose Smoothie Bar in South Street on Saturday.

“It was tremendous to be able to meet readers,” she said, “But there’s nowhere to buy fiction in Ilkeston, apart from Tesco, which has a very narrow range.

“It’s a real shame because we used to have so many.”
