Car boot plan could kick some life into Ilkeston

Labour councillors would like to see up to 2,000 bargain hunters at car boot sales in Ilkeston car parks.

Cllr Frank Phillips suggested having car boot sales on council land: “You get 3,000 people in a muddy field in Awsworth – if you had 2,000 people in one of our car parks, those people would support our town.”

Other ideas that the leading Tory group says it will ‘further investigate’, include a shuttle bus for the town centre and new ‘Welcome to Ilkeston’ signs.
