A car park in Ilkeston will no longer be run by Erewash Borough Council following the sale of the former Woolworths building.

The sale means that Wilton Place car park (south) will no longer be used by the public as a pay and display car park.

The council used the store’s car park for extra parking when Woolworths closed down but the building has been sold to an unknown buyer.

A spokesman for Erewash Borough Council said: “The council has advised residents that the car park behind the former Woolworth’s store in Ilkeston, is no longer in use as a pay and display car park.”

Spaces remain across the road at the Wilton Place (north) pay and display car park where there are two 30-minute free bays, two spaces for blue badge holders and six chargeable bays.

The council has extended this year’s free festive parking in Erewash – meaning there will be five weeks of free parking, running from December 1 through to January 3, with the aim to give a further boost for traders and shoppers.
