A care worker supports seven adults with learning disabilities at an Ilkeston care home has been shortlisted for a top industry award.

Elizabeth Fletcher, who works at Red House in Wharnecliffe Road, is up for a 2012 Great East Midlands Care Award in the care home worker category.

If she is successful she will get a place in the national finals.

“I’m honoured to have been selected as a finalist in the Great East Midlands Care Awards,” she said.

“My job is all about promoting independence and I love the fact that I can make a real difference to people’s lives.”

Red House service manager Sam Brown said: “Elizabeth has a wonderful rapport with all the individuals she supports and she is committed to helping them lead independent and fulfilled lives. Always willing to go the extra mile, she’s a real asset to Red House, as well as being a worthy finalist.”

The winners will be announced next Friday at The Nottingham Belfry hotel.
