Carnival returns to Bakewell

The vibrant sights and sounds of the annual carnival return to Bakewell this weekend, with an action-packed schedule of family events on offer.

Bakewell will be packed with residents and visitors throughout Saturday, with activities kicking off in the town at 1.30pm.

There will be a wide range of fun entertainment, including a miniature train, face painting and Punch and Judy sideshows.

Carnival entrants will assemble at 1.30pm in the town centre, with

classic cars on show to rev up the excitement.

Visiting carnival queens from surrounding areas will visit the town to compete for the Queen of Queens Trophy.

The retiring Carnival Queen will present trophies to the winners of Thursday night's carnival in the park at 2.15pm, before the new queen, princess and rosebud are royally appointed by radio presenter Becky Measures.

The procession will wind it's way from the park through the town, with two stops at Matlock Street zebra crossing and Sinclair's China Shop, during its 90-minute route.

The Association of Bakewell Christians has adopted a Noah's Ark theme for its entries into the carnival, so expect people in all sorts of wild fancy dress, walking two-by-two.

There will be live music performances and a hog roast in the evening.

Bakewell Silver Band, Chesterfield Musketeers, The Billerettes and Kidsgrove Scout Band are set to perform.
