More than 200 grants have been agreed to help community and voluntary groups whose main aims are to supporting the elderly and vulnerable.

A share of £2.5 million, from a newly formed public health resource fund by Derbyshire County Council, will be shared among Derbyshire’s Mind, Derbyshire’s Red Cross and 150 smaller lunching and befriending groups for the elderly community.

A range of services and support aimed at preventing or delaying the need for mainstream social care services is the main benefit behind the boost to benefit carers and users.

A further £675,000 fromt he fund will also be given to domestic abuse and substance misuse services, befriending services and exercise classes which without the financial backing would have been facing cuts.
